Mawani Apply New Regulations for Shipping Agents

Mawani has announced a new set of regulations that will govern the activities of shipping agents in the Saudi maritime sector in accordance with the Commercial Maritime Law, thereby replacing all previous versions, as the new regulations, which will come into effect from August 5, 2022, are a part of the Authority’s efforts to upgrade operations at Saudi ports as per world-class standards of efficiency and quality.

With the new regulations, Mawani is geared towards achieving transparency in transactions and regulating the sector in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS) through enhancing the services provided by shipping agents, supporting shipping lines, along with enabling exporters and the national economy.

The regulations include KPIs that will assess shipping agents, in addition to professional standards and codes of conduct that they must adhere to when conducting their activities, as the regulations are applicable on all licensed shipping agents, vessels entering Saudi ports, as well as all the handled cargoes and containers.

The new laws will regulate the contractual relationship between the shipping agent and other concerned parties by accurately clarifying their roles and responsibilities with the overall aim of attaining excellence and attracting investments.

Noting that Mawani is currently implementing an ambitious plan to boost imports and exports while fulfilling the demands of economic growth by establishing an integrated and effective ports network, to achieve the objectives of the national economic vision of positioning Saudi Arabia as a pioneer on the global maritime map.
